Getting your passport photo taken shouldn't be stressful. However, wearing the wrong outfit is the #1 reason photos get rejected by Passport Canada. Follow these tips to get it right the first time.
Choose Dark, Solid Colors
The background for Canadian passport photos is plain white. If you wear a white or light gray shirt, you will blend into the background, creating a "floating head" effect. This is an automatic rejection.
- Best colors: Navy Blue, Black, Dark Green, or Burgundy.
- Avoid: White, Cream, Light Pink, or Light Blue.
- Patterns: Keep them simple; busy patterns can distract from your facial features.
Glasses and Accessories
While you are technically allowed to wear glasses, we highly recommend removing them. Reflections on the lenses or frames obscuring your eyes will lead to rejection.
